Runs hot - Air dam problems?

Update: It seems the jerky who had the car before me over did it with the coolant.  I added some distilled water, and she runs a lot cooler now.  I still plan on throwing on a new air damn, as this one seems to be incomplete.

Final: This had a little itty bitty air damn from a non-GFX firebird.  Just the upper part, not the extension.  The full piece was cheep from dealer (like 20-30 bucks), fit perfect, and even included all new hardware!  This solved all my probs.  (more or less...)

Performance - Looking at max high po car.  Stroker engine, new top end, fix tranny shift probs (mushy, 3rd only at full throttle), 400+ hp and tq.
watch for tpi->carb article.  College bills'll probably put this on hold for 4 years...
Smoke - Vehicle smokes WAY to much at startup.  Smokes something fierce.  At winter, shooting out clouds.  New exhaust valve guides/ other?

The NOTORIOUS Start and Die/Hesitate

Most people suggested new MAF, which is 200-400 bucks.  F you!  I got my carb for the LOW end of that!  Fixed that problem great...
Bad Smells - Occasionally smell Burning oil or syrup (?, coolant possibly) from defogger vents.

Valve cover gasgets - The previous owner said they were bad, so I got some new gasgets.  This could be the source of the oil burning smell.  Also, during the summer when stopped, smoke has started to come out from under my hood.  I've checked it out, and the smoke is coming from the passenger side of the engine.  The guy said he replaced the drivers side gasget (it is SOOO much easier for anyone who hasn't seen the 350 tpi), so I'm assuming this is the source of the passenger side smoking.  Lower priority because there has been no smoking recently, and I want to replace the intake/exhaust valve guides at the same time.  Also, I want to plug off and remove a lot of the emissions stuff while im in a non emissions testing county, and I need to know how to correctly do this.
