JB Weld - This stuff will attach almost anything to anything else. It takes about 24 hours to dry, but other than that, this is great stuff. It can be drilled, tapped, and sanded. It is virtually unaffected by corrosive substances. Get the large package and enjoy.
Voltometer- This is also infinately useful, be sure you get one that'll read ohms. There is nothing I hate more than electrical gremlins, and this sweet machine makes solving those problems do-able. A screwdriver shaped object with a light in the clear handle and a ground wire coming out of it is not good enough, so don't kid yourself. Get the real thing, and if its the pointer style attach an alligator clip to the ground. They're only like 25 bucks.
3 foot breaker bar (jack handle)- Buy craftsman tools just so you can use this. Why monkey around with bolts that wont separate. Sure, you could get some rust penatrator, let it soak, and easily remove the bolts, but how manly is that? Just take your little bitty rached, stick the handle into one of these, and that bolt is coming off (weather the threads come with it is questionable, though...)
Timing light- While its use is somewhat limited, I was immensely impressed with this tool. Just how it makes your timing mark stand still while the thing is rotating faster than your eyes can see. I was amused a whole bunch.
Internet (thirdgen.org)- Do not ask questions, read the tech articles and search the archives. Board quality varies (between different topics), but you'll have a hard time getting your questions answered (for various reasons). Any question you have was almost definately answered more comepletely in previous posts. Just run a search. Also, look over all the replies, because on the net it's easy to whip off bad info and not be held accountable. Make sure several people agree on a course of action, not just some flunky that cranked out 3000 messages in a few months (which will all be in rapid fire/no thought format).
Vise-Grip- I have gone to the junkyard with just this bad
boy and made out great. It is so useful it isn't even funny.
It is a combined pliers/crescent wrench, only this thing actually works
well. It even acts as a flare wrench. Buy the standard size
as fast as possible, and vice grip only! no clench wrench/robogrip/whatever
else.
